Black Family Day

Saturday, May 20, 2017

On May 20, 2017 we will be celebrating our 46th annual Black Family Day event on the UC Davis campus. This is a time of festivity and joy as students congregate on the quad in the warm spring air. Black Family Day began during the spring of 1971 when students from the Black Student Union held a BBQ on the quad. Their intent was to celebrate themselves and to take a stand against the hxstorically and culturally exclusionary ideologies on campus.

2017 marks the 46th anniversary of this monumental step towards black empowerment and strengthening of our families. The family reflects the resilience, diversity and openness of black culture. Over the years we have hosted countless lectures, speakers, entertainers, entertainment groups, vendors, etc. There will be a variety of vendors selling food, merchandise and sharing information about their organizations and clubs.

This is a FAMILY event, so we encourage everyone to bring their whole family. We also will be having a Children's Fair which will include a jumper, face painting and other fun events that children will love! Bring your family and come enjoy joyful music, good food, and nice weather while we celebrate!

Keep up to date with events and announcements on our BFD Facebook page!
