Voices from the Streets: Homeless Youth Speak Out on State PolicyNovember 19, 2009 | East Conference Room, MU
Voices from the StreetsVoices from the Streets: Homeless Youth Speak out on State Policy will include a screening of a video put on by the California Research Bureau in conjunction with the California Council on Youth Relations that looks at how homeless youth are affected by state policy in California. In the video, homeless and previously homeless youth interviewed over 200 of their peers in California in order to make reccomendations on state policy. After the video will be a Q&A panel discussion, with: Patricia Johnson, the director of the CA Council for Youth Relations: Bill McCarthy, a professor that studies youth homelessness at UCD: a studen who has been homeless. Refreshments will be provided!

Epsilon Sigma Rho Presents the Multicultural Night 12. The Key to Awareness is Within. Release your awareness with live cultural performances from UC Davis student groups. Performances by: Revelation the Cerebral Liberator, Dahlak Brathwaite Rising Hip-Hop artist, Phi Beat Sigma, Toofan Dance Company, Sickspits, Broken Ground, Lambda Theta Nu, Davis High School Hip-Hop dance team, MK Modern, Nigeria Student dance group, Missouri Mule, Na Keiki 'O Hawaii, Breakdance Club, Danzantes del Alma, Sigma Lambda Gamma and Sigma Lambdra Beta and The Lounge Lizards. Tickets are free, make sure to pick one up at the Freeborn box office on the day of the event.

The purpose of the retreat is to unify the Middle Eastern and South Asian community with an inclusive environment for all forms of identity and diversity. Our hope is to establish a stranger presence on campus as a part of the M.E.S.A. community, which will help us begin outreach to the greater Middle Eastern and South Asian community outside of UC Davis.

DDA Children's WorkshopFebruary 6, 2010 | Freeborn Hall
The 22nd Annual Children's Workshop is a community event that brings K-12 students from Yolo County, Sacramento and the Bay Area, to UC Davis campus to learn about folklorico. Danzantes del Alma members will present techniques and history of various dances to students who will then perform for their parents and family! This is a free on-campus event, but registration is required. Parents may register their child at their school office, online or the day of the event. There will be a UC Davis delegation traveling from UCD to UCSD on Friday November 13th to take part in the 2009 Students of Color Conference. This is a UC wide conference that switches UC campuses each year. This year's theme is, Building Our Leaders with Purpose: Activism, Wellness and Reclaiming Education. Simply, a student's ability to impact the world cannot exceed their energy. To be an effective leader, activist and student requires balance. Mia Mingus, Keynote Speaker for Pride WeekOctober 20, 2009 | King Lounge, MU
Mia Mingus is a queer disabled woman of color, South Korean transracial adoptee, organizer and one of the Co-Executive Directors of SPARK Reproductive Justice Now (formerly Georgians for Choice) in Atlanta, Georgia. She believes that reproductive justice is crucial in the struggle for social change and the fight to end oppression. Through her work on disability, race, reproductive justice, gender, sexuality, and transracial adoption, she recognizes the urgency and barriers for oppressed communities to work together and build alliances for liberation. Though her activism changes and evolves, her roots remain firmly planted in ending sexual violence.

The Cross Cultural Center, in conjunction with the WRRC, CVPP, GSA, BPGSA, GAAAP, the GASC, and others were able to come together to provide a much needed Ally training to our Graduate student community. Providing training to nominated students from each participating graduate cluster in areas such as Ally Development, Power and Privilege, and Campus Resources takes a new step forward in assuring that all of our marginalized communities, in all levels of our campus, have the information and access to the spaces and places that will ensure their physical and psychological safety and security.

Part of the CCC open house. Tours going through the center will be lead through the maze of oppression which will allow the people in the tour to experience some of the oppressions that different communities endure within the seven dimensions of identity. Those dimensions being ability, age, class, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion/spirituality.
