REACH 2009 – the 10th anniversary edition
"The Power of T.E.N: a legacy of Transforming, Educating, and Nourishing"
The theme for the 10th anniversary edition of R.E.A.C.H. is "The Power of T.E.N: a legacy of Transforming, Educating and Nourishing". The CCC pays homage to nine years of tradition in building community, advancing social justice and providing meaningful experiences for the campus community. "The Power of T.E.N." calls to mind the impact that individuals from different perspectives and experiences can have on communities when they come together to dialogue, self-reflect and learn from each other's stories.
Transformative experiences occur when we remain open to the possibilities of new energy and ideas, while being respectful of those that have come before us and opened the doors of social justice with their own struggle and triumph. Education becomes the means to the goal of a truly just society where those who are invisible, marginalized and systematically targeted achieve true human rights and feel empowered to take their rightful place in society. Nourishing the soul requires an understanding of and respect for the whole individual and an environment that is inclusive of the identities we occupy as global citizens in this world.
We invite you to be a part of this legacy. Join us for our 10th anniversary celebration of this unique social justice retreat that focuses on building friendships, allies and advocates for social justice.
The three day retreat, held at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa in Kelseyville, CA, is comprised of workshops and home group activities which focus on the seven dimensions:
- Ability
- Age
- Class
- Gender
- Race/Ethnicity
- Sexual Orientation
- Spirituality

It's so motivating because we give students information about issues they will be facing or are facing currently.
The most enjoyable part of REACH was having the opportunity to connect with people who have a similar passion and desire for social justice. It was wonderful to see so many of my fellow classmates sharing this interest and being able to come together and celebrate our similarities and differences at the same time!
R.E.A.C.H. enabled me to meet many students and engage in great discussions outside of campus. I have been with the University for 20 years and this has been one of the best retreats I have ever participated in.
Visit this site again and again for details as they become available.
Applying to R.E.A.C.H.
It is a wonderful experience; we have MANY MANY applicants. Sadly, we only have room for approximately 100 people. Participants will be selected in an anonymous application process. Our Advice: Short answers do not tell us who you are. Be clear about what you don't and do understand about the 7 dimensions. Good luck. Also, we will leave via bus on Jan. 9, so be aware that this is AFTER the start of Winter quarter instruction on Jan. 5th.

It's like being cured of a headache I didn't know I had.
Privilege and isms are so strong like fortresses. This cracks the shield.
I never realized silence could cure so much. I cried to emotions I never realized I had.
