Event Date

2019 Asian American & Pacific Islander Community Week

Leading up to the Night Market will be a week of programs focusing on an array of AAPI-focused issues, topics, and more. This event is a apart of a week-long community kickoff that ends with our 2019 Asian American & Pacific Islander Community Night Market. Our goal is to build a stronger community among folx who identify as AAPI at UC Davis and to maintain that connection for future years.

Our theme for this year, Embracing Our Hxstories: Creating Our Futures, highlights the empowerment that the AAPI community's interconnected hxstories can bring, as well as taking agency in our own futures!

QT Viet Cafe (Co-Sponsored By: Southeast Asians Furthering Edcuation)

Come join us on Monday, April 29th from 6:00-8:00pm at the Multi-Purpose Room in the Student Community Center at QTViet Cafe, where we uplift Queer and/or Trans Việt narratives through ancestral food practices, the arts, and intergenerational connections as a worker-owned collective/cooperative. We will be cooking AND eating Vietnamese foods together while celebrating our queer identities.

Student participants will engage in learning how an emerging worker-owner collective of QTViet-identified artists, cooks, educators, and activists and their supportive allies are both centering and changing the queer/trans narratives. We will learn through storytelling, various media (videos, pictures), and dynamic/interactive components of cooking, eating, and dialogue.

The Menu:
  • Canh Chua Chay (Vegan, Gluten-free): Sweet and sour soup with tofu, okra, tomatoes
  • Dau Hu Kho (Vegan, Gluten-free): Braised tofu
  • Com (Vegan, Gluten-free): Rice
  • Che Dau Trang (Vegan, Gluten-free): Black eye peas rice pudding

Please note: This event is open to everyone, you don't have to be Vietnamese, but the space will primarily center queer folx of color. If you are planning on or considering attending, please fill out the RSVP form ASAP.
