Bio

Joe Martinez (they/he series) is a first-generation college graduate with a BA in Political Science from the University of La Verne and a Master's Degree in Organization Communication from the University of the Pacific. With almost 17 years of experience in the UC system, Joe has worked at various campuses, including Loyola Marymount and Occidental College. Since joining UC Davis in 2018, their focus has been on supporting marginalized communities and reimagining campus safety through advocating for innovative approaches to student expression. Joe actively advises student organizations dedicated to ethnic/cultural/identity-based communities and advocacy/political groups. Their committee work at UC Davis revolves around Diversity Equity and Inclusion initiatives, and they hold leadership roles in several organizations, including the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program and the Latinx Staff and Faculty Association. Beyond their professional life, Joe has a strong connection with music, often filling their office with its melodies or playing the guitar. During weekends, they enjoy visiting family in LA or Ashland, Oregon, where they cheer for their daughters, Angie and Charlotte, in Marching Band/Percussion Competitions or Soccer games.
