Program Purpose
Assists in the retention of junior scholars from historically marginalized communities in order to improve their representation in the UC Davis graduate community and, more broadly, in academia. Through faculty mentorship and other social and academic programming, the GSoC Mentoring Program holistically supports its graduate student participants as they navigate the rigors of graduate school.
Program Expectations
- Faculty mentors and graduate student mentees will use any preferred medium to meet at least once a month
- Faculty mentors and graduate student mentees will complete the GSoC Mentoring Program quarterly assessment (Google form) at the end of the winter and spring quarters
- Faculty mentors and graduate student mentees will strive to attend at least one program sponsored social event per quarter
- Faculty mentors and graduate student mentees will communicate with the Graduate Student Retention Coordinator should any difficulties or challenges arise in the mentoring relationship
Program Applications
The GSoC Mentoring Program pairs faculty/staff mentors with graduate students of color mentees. This is a two-quarter commitment (W25 & SP25). The mission of GSoC Mentoring Program is to increase the retention of junior scholars of color from historically marginalized and under-recognized communities.
Applications are now closed for the 2024-2025 school year. Applications will reopen in Fall 2025.
